Prince Harry and the former Meghan Markle are teaming up with TODAY's Carson Daly this week in the name of mental health.The TODAY co-host will moderate a panel that includes Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, as well as surgeon general Vivek Murthy for the Archewell Foundation Parents' Summit.The panel is part of a festival hosted by Project Healthy Minds for World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10 in New York.The Parents' Summit will focus on “building community and creating positive change for a safer online world for young people,” according to an Instagram post about the event.For Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Harry and Meghan visited youth group AHA! Many hunters enjoy mentoring others in the pleasure of and importance of being good stewards of our natural resources. For most hunters it's not the killing of game that's key to hunting, but the experiences and life lessons they gain. People who hunt have a special connection with the outdoors and an awareness of the relationships between wildlife, habitat, and humans. With that awareness comes an understanding of the role humans play in being caretakers of the environment. Helping others by putting food on their tables – Food banks need donations now more than ever. Hunters are providing much needed protein to Virginia's needy families by donating a deer or a portion of it to Hunters for the Hungry (www.h4hungry.org). Last hunting season, more than 405,000 pounds of venison equal to 1.6 million servings were distributed in the Commonwealth through this program. Since Hunters for the Hungry was founded in 1991, more than 3.5 million pounds, equal to 13.5 million servings, of venison have been distributed in Virginia. In tough times, hunters continue to share the wealth of their harvest. Hunters can also contribute by donating to Hunters for the Hungry when they purchase their hunting licenses. The non-hunting public can donate money to Hunters for the Hungry to off-set the cost of processing that donated meat. With all the benefits of hunting that everyone enjoys, it's important to maintain the tradition of hunting in Virginia. With a 2010 Hunting Heritage Partnership Grant from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc., the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has been reaching out to hunters who once held hunting licenses but have since lapsed. The direct mail campaign encourages the casual hunter not only to purchase a license and return to hunting but also to share the experience with others. The Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative (GVTC) started The GVTC Foundation in 2006, but GVTC started in 1951 as a cooperative providing telecommunications in the Texas Hill Country. The GVTC Foundation helps organizations that provide Health & Human Services, Education, Youth Programs, Cultural Programs, and Volunteer Emergency Services. The GVTC Foundation’s mission is to profoundly enhance the quality of life in the communities served by funding 501(c)3 nonprofits, so the community-based customer has the services they need. As a cooperative, GVTC is member-owned and 87% of GVTC employees contribute their payroll deduction. 100% of GVTC directors participate in the foundation as well. Both are matched by GVTC at 150%. Anyone can make a donation to the GVTC Foundation and GVTC will match those donations dollar-for-dollar. You can designate where the funds are given provided, they match the areas assigned by GVTC. Otherwise, the money goes to the general fund and 98 cents of every dollar is redistributed to the community. GVTC has 11 counties that they serve: Bexar, Blanco, Bastrop, Comal, Caldwell. DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays and Kendall. In 2012, GVTC started the Thanksgiving Give Back Project where they work with families and youth groups. Youth groups do community service through can drives and GVTC works with businesses, churches and other nonprofits to help GVTC prepare complete Thanksgiving Dinners that are hand-delivered to families in need.The GVTC Foundation currently has 148 partner nonprofits that they support. GVTC Communications has 225 employees that spend 32,000 hours helping the community.
