Itunes download update

I downloaded the update to iOS16 but it won't install until I get the latest version of iTunes, which iTunes says I already have. Problem was that ITUNES needs an update. But I can't find a way to force ITUNES to check for updates or do an update. There is supposed to be a button or option under the HELP menu in ITUNES to "check for updates" but it is not visible.
