Acom data hard drives

07-16-2004, 12:11 AM Member Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Fairfax, California Posts: 1,125 Acomdata Hard Drives Hey guys,Been out on a little road trip for the past week or so, and came back to find that a client of mine bought a 80 GB Firewire hard drive from Acomdata ( I was reading through the Spec Sheet of it trying to find mention of the Oxford 911 chipset, but I've also seen the IEEE 1394 being mentioned alongside Oxford 911 chipsets...do IEEE 1394 and Oxford 911 mean the same thing? Will this thing work for Pro Tools?Sorry to ask here, I should have researched but I have to start a session tomorrow and I thought for sure someone here could provide me with a quick answer. Oxford 911 is a type of chip that translates data between the firewire connection protocol and the IDE/ATA protocol of the drive. It is made by Oxford Semiconductor, hence the name. IEEE 1394 is the specification for Firewire. IEEE stands for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
